I was getting dressed today and I noticed something in the back of my closet. Okay, so perhaps the only reason I noticed it was the fact I haven’t done laundry in a while. Regardless, the item in question is a shirt. A sort of faded plaid button up shirt. Not just any shirt mind…

Survey
==== I just took the “2007 A List Apart Web Design Survey.”:http://alistapart.com/articles/webdesignsurvey If you are involved in making the web, you should too. Surveys like this help us designers and developers get a grasp of where our industry currently stands, and what the average web worker is doing and making. We’re certainly an outspoken industry,…
Qualify
== Information architecture. Usability. Accessibility. Web standards. If you don’t know about these things, stop designing websites until you have learned. Competence in graphic design is merely a baseline; it does not qualify you to create user experiences for the web. – Jeffrey Zeldman, discussing the backward web design methods used by a prominent agency…
White-hot
==== I recently finished the site for Jessica White photography. I could wax verbose, but suffice it to say it’s clean, lean and done. So go “have a look”:http://jessicawhitephoto.com … and keep your eyes open for a familiar face. Also keep your eyes open for Jessica’s portrait photography site, Bliss Portraits. I simply love how…
Mr Coggins
“Happy Cog”:http://happycog.com redesigns. “People”:http://daringfireball.net/linked/2007/february#thu-08-zeldman_cog “love”:http://www.beatnikpad.com/bagatelle/ “it.”:http://www.simplebits.com/notebook/2007/02/08/happycog.html GB thinks it is swell. (It’s very Stan. GB likes Stan’s stuff). People repeatedly mention sentence as navigation as being so wonderful and clever. GB wonders if people would have made the same fuss about his “paragraph as navigation”:http://gregorybowers.com/ had he put it on every page. GB thinks not.…
The Times, They Are A Changin’
Oh, I’m sorry, that was an awful wordplay… but the Times Online just redesigned their site. And I’m left befuddled. John Gruber seemed to like it. When I opened my Daring Fireball feed at lunch, I saw John’s brief post and decided to check it out—mostly due to his mention that the Times do not…
OmniWeb price drop
In case you haven’t noticed (I hadn’t): OmniWeb’s price was cut in half That’s right, you can now get the goodness that is OW for only $US 14.95, and only $5 for an upgrade. Very rad and well worth it.
Bad ad?
Word of advice, Intel: Do not attempt to make computer processing chips cool. It’s a losing battle.

Medusa
I recently completed an illustration for an upcoming benefit calendar for a friend of mine. She’s dealing with the early stages of cervical cancer, so a group of artists decided to come together and produce a calendar of our interpretations of her (she does some modelling on the side, so we had plenty of photography to base our work on). I’m not certain of the details, but I believe profits from the calendars will go straight to her. Regardless of the semantics, she’s a fantastic person, and we’re all pulling for her.
Frustrate
Want to frustrate the living hell out of a designer (especially a Mac-based designer)? Require him/her to submit a résumé in MS Word DOC format. I just spent most of the evening redoing my PDF-based (and Illustrator-designed) résumé in Word, only to discover that, hey, guess what… you can’t embed fonts in a Word document…
