Apple opened this years WWDC today in San Francisco. While there was no way I could afford a ticket to WWDC, like the rabid Apple fan that I am, I’ve been reading about all the announcements made today during Steve Jobs’ keynote. I won’t bore you with all the details (that’s the job of Mac news and rumor sites), but I will say this:
I NEED $2000
Apple finally introduced updated LCD displays: 20″, 23″ and 30″. I’ve long pined for a 23″ monitor (especially since my brother has one, albeit the now “old school” model), and using my two year old Viewsonic 17″ LCD is really cramping my productivity. As cool as the new 30″ LCD is (and believe me, it makes grown people cry), The $3200 asking price is a bit high, especially when you realize that it requires a brand-new Nvidia graphics card that tacks on another $600. Plus, I didn’t even spend $3200 on my (then) top-of-the-line PowerMac G5 when I bought it last year. Can’t go spending more on my monitor than my computer… well, unless I’m filthy rich (which I’m definitely not). So 23″ it is. Unfortunately, it still costs 2 grand, and I’m not really in the position to spend that right now (I have credit cards to pay off first and an upcoming tuition bill in the fall). So, I have an idea. People can give me the money! Isn’t that a great idea? All about sharing, and caring, and me! Or, even better, if you have that money burning a hole in your pocket, you can buy me one.
Okay, so perhaps that isn’t terribly realistic. Looks like I need to find some extra clients, and pronto.
Update: How beautiful is this? Two 30″ displays running on one G5. You’re looking at about 7 grand here… plus a 3 grand computer… woo.
